Austin Liu's London trip

7 days · 21 stops · United Kingdom

Day 1

FRI, SEP 5
Morning

Westminster and Buckingham Palace

Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey, then St James's Park through to Buckingham Palace. Take the bus where you can — the tube is priced by distance and £6 a go really adds up, while the double deckers are a flat £1.75.

Afternoon

Trafalgar Square through to Soho

Trafalgar Square, Covent Garden, then Soho and Chinatown by way of Carnaby Street and Regent Street. Worth ducking into Tesco or Sainsbury's for British snacks — Smarties, digestives, meal deals.

Evening

Kiln, then Soho bars

Kiln at opening — first come first served and it packs out fast — then Big Kid. Soho and Chinatown bars after, or Ronnie Scott's for jazz. The Prince Charles Cinema is right here if you want a film instead.

Day 4

MON, SEP 8
Morning

Borough Market

Go hungry. London Bridge and the Thames are right there; Maltby Street Market is the smaller alternative if this is too much.

Afternoon

South Bank, Tate Modern, Millennium Bridge

Along to the London Eye and Waterloo. The BFI IMAX is here too — the largest IMAX screen in Britain, and worth it if you get the chance.

Evening

Day 5

TUE, SEP 9
Morning
Afternoon

Victoria Park to Hackney Wick

Through Victoria Park and along Regent's Canal. APOC, Juju Home, the London Centre for Book Arts and the independent design shops; Roach Road, Dace Road and Stour Road out to Old Ford Lock and the River Lea.

Evening

Day 6

WED, SEP 10
Morning
Afternoon

Brick Lane, Spitalfields, Shoreditch

Vintage shopping, cafés and street art. Dishoom Shoreditch for lunch or an early dinner — touristy but iconic and worth including. Exmouth Market and the Barbican Conservatory are both near enough to add.

Evening

Day 7

THU, SEP 11
Morning
Afternoon

Regent's Park to Camden Market

Over Primrose Hill and down to Camden for the food stalls and the canals. Coal Drops Yard and King's Cross sit on the same stretch of Regent's Canal if you want to keep going.

Evening
